TaxiCatcher Light — born from being missed

Make it clearer that you want the taxi passing in front of you.

It started with a small late-night frustration I experienced many times: I was waving for a taxi, but the driver did not seem to notice me.

I kept being missed.

I often use taxis late at night, and more than once a taxi simply passed by even though I was waving.

I began to wonder: “Is it too dark where I am standing for the driver to see me?” or “Am I getting lost in the crowd?”

“How can I make it clearer that I want to take a taxi?”

The phone light alone was not enough.

I tried turning on my smartphone light. In a dark place, it could help make me more visible.

But I still felt that a light alone did not clearly communicate one important thing: “I want a taxi.”

The idea: show “TAXI” clearly on the screen.

Then I thought: what if the phone itself displayed a large “TAXI” sign? That might make my intention much easier to understand. That idea became TaxiCatcher Light.

TaxiCatcher Light is not a ride-hailing, booking, or payment app. It is a simple visibility tool designed to help communicate your intention to hail a taxi, especially at night, in dark places, or in crowds.

It may be for a minority — and that is okay.

There are many excellent taxi-hailing apps around the world. But sometimes a person simply wants to stop the taxi that is passing right in front of them.

Maybe only a smaller group of people needs this kind of tool. Even so, I wanted to build something that could make those people think, “I’m glad this app exists.”
